Leah Hanza is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator at the Franklin Academy Palm Beach Gardens (FAPBG) campus. Prior to relocating to the Palm Beach Gardens area, Mrs. Hanza lived with her husband and daughters in Lima, Peru. She taught at a prestigious private school in Lima for ten years, developing her IB skills and her knowledge of the Primary Years Programme. This year is FAPBG’s first year as a candidate school for the IB PYP and Ms. Hanza has led the faculty in their journey towards being an IB Authorized World School. The PYP develops young students into caring, active participants in a lifetime of learning through inquiry-based, transdisciplinary, thematic units. Students are taught to think for themselves and take responsibility for their own learning as they explore local and global issues in real-life contexts. Students learning in a PYP environment work to develop ten attributes that make up an IB learner; IB students are inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. Ms. Hanza is a valued member of our Franklin family and we are grateful for her guidance as we move through the IB process.
Sean Dowling is a 4th-grade student at Franklin Academy Palm Beach Gardens. Aside from being a stellar student, Sean spends a great deal of his time training in his passion: gymnastics. He started gymnastics at age 2 ½ and currently trains six days per week at Gold Coast Gymnastics where he is coached by Francisco Rodriguez Arce. Sean has been a member of the USA Gymnastics Regional Developmental Future Stars Team for the past two years and placed second all-around at the Florida State Championships last month. He is the State Champion on pommel horse. His next competition will be the Regional Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 28th, 2018. Sean’s favorite events are floor and pommel horse and his goal is to represent the USA at the 2028 Olympics! We are so excited to see all that Sean does as he continues to work hard both in, and out, of school.
